Ema Takahashi PhotoEma Takahashi was born and raised in Japan, and comes from a family chain of creative talent. With both parents in the design world, Ema, at a young age was introduced to the fundamentals of design. Ema Takahashi was also intrigued by the markings on sheet music, which lead to her studies in classical music, which she studied and performed for 20 years. In 1997, Ema Takahashi packed her bags for New York to study at FIT, it was there that she further explored the various elements of design that now influence her creations. Ema Takahashi is inspired first and foremost through her inherent love of graphic design and industrial design of the 20th century. This influence can be seen in her ‘minimal-gorgeous’ style, striking yet clean designs. It was Ema’s passion for design and her fascination with music that inspired Ema to create a unique jewelry collection in her name.

Ema’s reputation throughout the jewelry design world has flourished over the years, she has worked with top jewelry brands including Lisa Jenks and Robin Rotenier, Ema’s work is also used by large design houses including Anne Klein and Jennifer Lopez.

Q: As you are Japanese, living in NYC, what do you see Japan and what do you think about the difference between living Japan and NYC?
A: After I came to NY I became conscious that Japan(especially Tokyo) has one of the most beautiful and fashionable and eccentric culture, As a creator who wants to built a career, it is good to live in NY because just being Japanese can be one of the good identity as a designer, although it is not a big part. And fashion people in NY tend to like Japanese sense of beauty…
