Hi,

My name is Jordan Kennedy. I am a senior at Hendrix College and I am currently in the process of applying for the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. This is a really prestigious fellowship given to 50 graduating seniors in the US. Here is the link for more information: http://www.watsonfellowship.org/site/index.html

The basic premise of the fellowship is to give 50 deserving students the chance to do something they are passionate about for one year. During my sophomore year abroad at an art school in Italy, I took jewelry design and metal smithing and fell in love with the art of jewelry making, especially the metal smithing aspect.

I was hoping we could begin looking at the possibility of me creating some sort of apprenticeship with your company for a few months of my fellowship year. Our preliminary applications are due in a month and it is really important to show that some form of contact has been made with people you plan to learn from.

I am really interested in observing how a culture uses forms of jewelry as a way of expressing their religious devotion and I see a lot of that in the jewelry made here.

If this is something you could consider, please let me know. I am really curious about different cultures and would love to learn more. Thank you so much for your time. Even if you could just refer me to some designers, that would be great.

Also, here is the website of my college:
www.hendrix.edu and you can contact Britt Murphy at murphyb@hendrix.edu if you have more questions about the Watson. However, please email me at kennedyjl@hendrix.edu if we could open a discussion about this idea.

Thank you so much!

Guess I'm just a diamond kind of guy.

Thanks for the article. I'm constantly amazed at how many variations designers have been able come up with based on basic symbols like the star of david or a hamsa. One of my favorite designers of jewish and hamsa jewelry is Katya at www.CulturalImages.net
